Paper Presentation at the 2024 EIASM Family Business Management Research Workshop

Professor Chiung-Wen Tsao from the Center for Strategy and Human Capital Research at National Sun Yat-sen University visited Barcelona, Spain, from September 30 to October 1, 2024, to participate in the 19th EIASM Family Business Management Research Workshop. The event was jointly organized by the Esade Entrepreneurship Institute, the Centre for Family Entrepreneurship and Ownership, and Jönköping International Business School from Sweden.

The theme of this conference was "Nurturing Responsible Owners in Purpose-Driven Business Families", attracting over 80 scholars from various countries. The majority of the attendees came from European countries such as Italy, Sweden, Germany, and Spain. Professor Chiung-Wen Tsao was the only participant from Taiwan. On the afternoon of the second day, she presented her paper titled “Family Business Resilience and Succession Planning: Multiple Case Studies From a Dynamic Managerial Capabilities Perspective.” The attendees actively provided feedback and posed questions from different perspectives, particularly regarding how national culture and external environments influence organizational governance and resilience development, further enriching the research on family businesses. The two-day conference included 15 paper presentation sessions, with around 60 papers discussed. It also featured three excellent keynote speeches, networking dinners, and other activities.

The European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM) is an international research network focused on advancing high-quality research and doctoral studies in the field of management. Since 2005, EIASM has hosted the Family Business Management Research Annual Conference in various cities across Europe. This event provides a platform for family business researchers to share their findings, receive peer feedback, and foster collaboration. The conference includes keynote speeches, research presentations across various domains, and a range of networking activities, aiming to bring the latest research results and innovative ideas to the field of family business research.

Professor Tsao mentioned that the scale of this conference was medium to small, but very efficient, with close interactions among participants, providing scholars with rich opportunities for interaction. Based on her observation, this kind of conference environment fostered friendly academic dialogue, allowing participants to fully exchange experiences and perspectives over the two-day event. She also encouraged more domestic scholars to participate in similar international seminars, especially those highly relevant to their own research fields, as this would promote academic exchange and collaboration, bringing significant benefits to their own research and academic development.
